Check out the Hybrid page. It has all the info on swaps...The ZC is the first one on their list.

I have NEVER heard of a 1.8L ZC engine. In my research, I have only discovered 3 ZC engines, none of which being 1.8L. By the way, I'm new here, saw the link on Purehonda, my name is Jason.

I love being a jerk and saying this stuff.

    This page has some criticism's...

ZC ECU ahs speed governor like all JDM ECU's set at 105mph...kicks down 10 km and then renegages fuel injectors. I don't see people complaining that their B16A ECU's have too low of a speed governor?? If anybody chooses an integra ECU over one of these, they should be shot for being simply lame! You'd be lucky to get to 115 mph in 1 mile's sprint anyways.

Removing the Timing Belt Cover and not having splash gaurds. I love this. Ever have a timing belt slip form water getting on the belt. Throws your timing off instantly. Next time you drive in wet weather, watch where the alternator belt throws the water upward and hits the back part of the hood near the firewall seal at the hood...it then runs forward to the hood member in front of it and drips directly down off the middle of the member.....and gues where the timing belt is. Nuff said. Don't be a smuck - this is a stupid thing to do! If your cover breaks - use epoxy, fiberglass resign or whatever it takes - do some preventive action - save your engine.

Stock ZC rods will not hold up to 200hp...I don't know where this came from, but if you are running 200hp, then you're really cranking on that engine. Anybody in their right mind has too much of a chance of detonating their engine, and the stock pistons crack easier on detonation...forged components are a lot more resilitant. Don;t be a turd and do this. It's hard getting teh ZC above 170~180 NA without doing serious modification. Turbo it's very easily to achieve up and over 200hp. Either way...I don't think you'll ever be having stock rods and pistons at this point and if anybody takes this seriously...jsut know the people that probably made this page laugh when they see someone reply..."oh yeah, your rods are good for - well 200 horsepower!" Christ, that's just incredible what kind of trask gets talked out there.

Enough talking smack on the page though....I just wish alot of shit wasn't said. Reusing stock parts or building up on old stock internals is only good for a small gain. Past that, it has to be aftermarket, insurance is the number one reason...performance isn't really what's in mind. Nobody builds a 13 second NA car or 11 second turbo car without insuring they won't tear up their $7000 dollar engine. Just never happen this way.

This isn't the link I was looking for, but it will give you a little info on ZC engines.

Thanks jon. I was never really sure why peeps would want to run their cars without a timing belt cover either...I am not an expert, but it would seem that ANYTHING that can get in there and mess with it, would. How about the other option of shimming the motor down with washers?? Is that a safe alternative to a ~$325 ZC hood?

What about b16a's? Are any of you haveing clearance issues? Do you keep your stock hoods with these motors?

    -Thanks smile

ZC rubs on the hood frame support that runs almost diagonal on the driver's side....this is words I am passing along. Eric would know better on this...he has done a ZC engine and goes arounf to the different shows and notices things like this I'm sure.

The B16A...I did not see a problem with the CRX install of the B16A with the Place Racing Kit. They angle the engine a bit and the hood sits flat with the valve cover. So there isn't any rubbing. However I was told with the Hasport Kit there may also be some rubbing at this same spot. Again...I haven't used the hasport kit...so anybod with this kit installed would know.

With the B18 engines, B18A/B and B18C series, the hood clearance will not work...and you will need a taller hood with a Hasport Kit. With The Place Racing Kit you may use the stock hood. The engine is lowered a bit and this is how they get it to fit.

As far as shimming the mount...this can be done. I don't recommend it, but your gonna be angling the axles the slightest bit. I don't know the effect...but it may be compressing the axle...and this may cause premature wear, so be careful. I'd be more likely to grinding off the rubbing area of that hood frame support and filing it in with engine epoxy...the grey stuff that costs like $3.50...and then spraying some touch-up paint over it. Probably the best idea.

You know what would be real worthy...not sure if anyone's ever seen the Turbo kits Greddy makes for the D16Z6 engines...but the alluminum mnifold coevers they make....that would look cool, if someone could make replacement timing belt covers for the ZC engine that looked like this.

It would at least shield the cover area from getting water in there. And a foam insulation strip from lowes epoxied to the cover on the engine side would make for the perfect seal.
